A Devil May Care (lyric video)
Prelude to a devil may care
If you are in love with 'Good Omens', the story by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett and 'Good Omens' the 2-part TV series starring David Tennant and Michael Sheen, then this story - and this song - is for you:
Imagine the demon Crowley, steadfast tender heart losing his hold on words, his will to live wavering in the stark darkness he feels without his chosen soul, the angel Aziraphale.
Knowing that his angel revels in words, Crowley tries to write his love, and he feels that he fails. But he does not fail. Aziraphale, if he read the aching heart in these words, would understand completely.
Crowley's need for his angel is the size of a sun, more powerful than the moon. It radiates from his long body, deep, inescapable.
Inadvertently he projects the whisper of his heart into the mind of a neighbor, a songwriter. As if by magic (a demonic miracle) she finds a song readymade in her mind.
She works all night to write the lyrics and the melody. As dawn breaks in London, she wakes her band and they create the music. They do not feel compelled. They are only reporters.
Crowley hears in the song the essence of his own long yearning, centuries in the making. But the song feels incomplete.
Unlike heaven, hell does not constrain its devils' miracles. And so, trembling with fear and hope, Crowley opens a secret stairway to a pin-sized opening that leads to heaven, so that his love might hear his devil’s song.
The melody rises and Aziraphale, drifting in his own despair, is struck motionless.
When the human sings, the angel(above) and the demon(with us on earth) begin, together, to cry.
And is what they heard.
A Devil May Care by antaidian (aka tokyoterri)
At the risk that you can feel this don’t forget that I’m suspicious It’s my nature always doubting fearing love the pain is starting
a devil may care, hallelujah a devil may care, amen a devil may care, in your angel eyes I create the stars, then I start to fall And can I rise?
To your beauty no resistance so I gift you my persistence We know what we are together to surrender endless pleasure
a devil may care, hallelujah a devil may care, amen a devil may care, when your angel eyes don’t see heaven lies, then I start to fall And can I rise?
hell or heaven toxic choices they will never hear our voices wasted centuries, search for freedom no more chances to redeem them
So we quit their tainted glory We can finally share the story of our past and future ages Won’t survive on separate stages
a devil may care, hallelujah a devil may care, amen a devil may care, in your angel eyes We create it all, deep in love we fall, And then we rise
a devil may care, hallelujah a devil may care, amen a devil may care, in your angel eyes We create it all, deep in love we fall, And still we rise
